Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago (caminodocumentary.org)

smartsport_th

Walking the Camino  is a documentary film directed by Portland based Filmmaker Lydia B. Smith. It follows the journeys of six pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago in Spain. I joined this project as a web-master in  2013. Eventually, In 2014, as the film was preparing for it’s release on DVD, Blu Ray and Video on Demand, I was tasked with redesigning the site and building a custom WordPress theme. The new design is responsive and features custom post-types and Woocommerce integration.

Technology Used:

  • XHTML
  • LESS
  • PHP
  • WordPress
  • Woocommerce
  • Twitter Bootstrap

The Success Matrix (thesuccessmatrix.com)

success_matrix_th

This site was designed by Keel Creative and for Gerry Langeler, an author and entrepreneur, who recently started his own podcast. As a fan of the podcasting medium, I was very excited to get a chance to help develop the website for them. The site needed to be responsive and and also required a number of considerations  to be made about usability in the WordPress admin back-end.

Technology Used:

  • XHTML
  • LESS
  • PHP
  • WordPress
  • Twitter Bootstrap

Smart Sport Surfacing (smartsportsufacing.com)

This was another site I developed with Blumenfeld and Fleming. The site was built as a custom WordPress theme based on their design. It was built for Joe Murphy who runs his own tennis court re-surfacing business in the Hamptons. The site features some custom post types and unique implementation of the the post thumbnail function in WordPress.

Technology Used:

  • XHTML
  • CSS
  • WordPress

Fresh (freshhamptons.com)

This was one of my first collaborative projects. I worked with the Blumenfeld and Fleming agency to build a custom Worpress theme based on their design. This is a one page scrolling site which offered a lot of opportunities to utilize jQuery and AJAX. Their design is beautiful and it was a very rewarding project to be a part of. This site also won a Platinum Marcom Award.

Technology Used:

  • XHTML
  • CSS
  • WordPress
  • jQuery

Shuffleshine (shuffleshine.com)

This site was created for Portland based bluegrass punk band, Shuffleshine. This was a labor of love as I happen to be the mandolin player for Shufflshine. This design combines elements of both new and old aesthetics. I wanted to add a little texture and discovered a method of creating wood grain in Photoshop. The woody texture and wood burning logo give the site a rustic and warm quality while the modern layout makes everything easy to navigate. The site is powered by WordPress and includes some CSS3 based animations.

  • XHTML

Mary Gauthier Poster

This poster was created for Joe Ross’ Zephyr Productions Concert Series in Roseburg, OR. Mary Gauthier is a wonderful Nashville singer/songwriter. The photo was provided by Joe and I created the layout and typography to work with the stark and moody image.

Technology Used:

  • Adobe Photoshop

The Colleen Raney Band Poster

Another poster created for Joe Ross’ concert series in Bend. This one was for the Colleen Raney Band who play traditional and contemporary Irish music. I was going for a brighter spring feel with this one. The photo was provided by Joe.

Technology Used:

  • Adobe Photoshop

Anne Weiss & Will Healy Poster

Anne Weiss poster 2012

This is the most recent design I have created for Anne Weiss. We wanted to update her posters to reflect the design used on her most recent album, Where Folk Gets the Blues. My poster is based on the wonderful graphic design work of Scott Docherty.

Technology Used:

  • Adobe Photoshop

Anne Weiss, Carol Stuart & Laura Kemp Poster

Anne Weiss, Carol Stuart & Laura Kemp Poster

I have produced a number of posters for Portland based singer/songwriter Anne Weiss. This is a format I have been using for her shows over the last year. I have attempted to utilize the aesthetics of other posters associated with roots music while also maintaining a clean and contemporary feel.

Vitruvian Massage

Vitruvian Massage

This logo was designed for a local, independent, message therapist who has name their business Vitruvian Massage. I utilized subtle references to Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man while also drawing the attention of the viewer to the massage therapists skilled hands. My initial design utilized a nice Roman Grid font but the final version used only the image. See if you can find the hidden initials.

Technology Used:

  • Adobe Illustrator

Bio Plastics Logo

Bio Plastics Logo

This logo was designed for a contest put on by Ceraplast, a bio-plastics manufacturer. The goal of the contest was to create a bio-plastics logo in a similar spirit as the classic Recycling symbol, created by Gary Anderson in 1970. My submission utilized a Moebius Strip to convey the idea of renewable plastics. My choice to use a yellow and green color scheme was informed by Ceraplast’s use of those colors in their corporate identity as well as the presence of those colors in freshly grown corn stalks.

Dirigible Airways

Dirigible Airways Logo

This was a design exercise which explicitly called for vintage, 1920’s or 1930’s design aesthetics. The product was up to me, so I invented the idea of an airline composed of dirigibles. For a time, these machines were seen as a possible future for commercial air travel until the tragic Hindenberg crash. I borrowed typographical elements from Weimar-era Germany and built a faux wood-cut illustration in Adobe Illustrator.

Technology Used:

  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop

Quinoa Pencils

These business cards were designed as part of another design excercise. I randomly selected a letter of the alphabet and then selected a vegetable which began with that letter. This would be the company name. Next, a product was randomly selected. I was then tasked with developing 5 logo concepts and business card designs. These were my 2 favorites.

Photography

After taking a photography class in the summer of 2010, I discovered that there was a rich world of possibilities available by applying just a little bit of digital magic and some patience. I took these photos over the course of 2 months. Using my cameras drive feature, I took sets of photos of various people and objects in motion. I then utilized some of the grouping features in photoshop to combine images, tweaking levels and masking off areas when appropriate. The final products are some various interesting depictions of motion.
