A well crafted blog post will have a thesis and express that thesis as succinctly as possible. Blogs are for reading in just a few minutes. Of course, with the advent of applications such as Readability, readers can dig into the first paragraph of a post and save the rest for later. Reading long form posts on a desk top computer is not my favorite experience, but reading from my Kindle while commuting or lounging around is excellent.
This portability is what I find most exciting about blogs. The content can now live anywhere because it can be imported, exported, re-formatted, and sent around the world twice. Quality of content becomes vital.
As a freelance designer and general appreciator of culture, I want my blog to reflect my personality and experiences in a way that makes it both informative and entertaining. I may post quotes and reference links to other sites, but I will endeavor to avoid becoming a “re-blogger”. Re-bloggers simply spread large chunks or complete copies of popular, often controversial, blog posts from around the web. This is not writing, and I don’t even see it as journalism. Mostly, it is link bating and I don’t think it is the best use of anyone’s time either to read or post such things.
So, welcome to my blog. There will be more to come in the future.Tags: blogging, thoughts, writing
